I finally had time to update my website this week.  I added two new pages, one to keep a list of articles I’m writing for various periodicals and the other to provide links to lyrics I’ve begun to write.

I am a staff writer for Poetic Monthly Magazine, but they do not keep archives online once an issue is replaced by a new current one.  So, once an issue has passed, I’m posting my column on my Associated Content space.  You can see the start on my list at http://www.jackhuber.com/columns.htm.

A lot’s been going on the last few weeks.  I’ll try to bring you up to date.

After a year-long job search, I managed to get hired last month as a Systems Analyst at the airport here in Wichita.  While it’s a great relief to be working again, I’ve found little time to write until this week.

I have been posting my poetic form tutorials on my own website, 22 so far, but have decided to move them to Associated Content, a site devoted to articles and information from a wide variety of topics.  On this site, my audience will be widened considerably.

For many years I have had columns published, both online and in print, about business practices and describing technology to the layperson.  I plan on publishing some of those articles as well, and will get back to writing on those topics again soon.

One of my recent poems, “Keeper of the Grounds,” was chosen as a “Staff Pick” for the month of September by GotPoetry.com.  “Keeper” is a “terza rima” poem, an Italian form from the Middle Ages, once used by such poets as Dante, Milton, Byron, Robert Frost and T.S. Eliot.

This is the second time a poem of mine was selected as a GotPoetry.com Staff Pick.  The first was “Brothers,” chosen in September, 2008.  I wonder if I’ll be chosen again in September of 2010…

I’m excited to announce that the online literary publication, Poetic Monthly Magazine, accepted my application to become a staff writer and my column will begin appearing in next month’s issue.  I was introduced to its founder, Martin D. White, by my good friend and fellow author Diane Tegarden.

Though poetry is making a comeback, especially classic poetry, traditional publishers, such as Random House and Penguin Group, are still hesitant to take on such a project.  It would be helpful if everyone who enjoys poetry would let major publishers know by going to their websites and sending comments.  Start by looking inside the covers in your favorite books and see who the publisher is.  Then look them up online.

Buying gobs of poetry books wouldn’t hurt either.

In today’s issue of the Hutchinson News, an article appeared about me and my relationship with Greensburg, KS, and the 5.4.7 Arts Center. “Poet, Arts Center ‘Splendid’ Partners,” describes my new book as well as my interest in the small town’s rebuilding efforts. About two hours west of Wichita, Greensburg was obliterated by an EF-5 tornado in May 2007.

‘Splendid’ refers to the title of my book, “A Splendid Alternative” and the title poem inspired by Greensburg’s phoenix-like re-emergence from a state of debris. The 5.4.7 Arts Center is the first LEED Platinum-certified “green” building in the state.

Hutchinson News developed the article after receiving a joint press release about my donation to the Arts Center of all profits from sales of ‘Splendid’ at the Center and at Greensburg’s Big Well, a tourist attraction.

Hutchinson, Kansas, is about 60 miles northwest of Wichita and has a large regional presence.
